Given the impending third wave of the pandemic, our fellows faced a bunch of challenges when they got down to work on their MoJo stories. They couldn't go out reporting because some of the states locking down and travel was being restricted. But the situation didn't dampen their spirits, and they made the best use of their available resources, reported remotely and published their mobile stories with In Old News and one with 101 Reporters.
Here are some of the stories that our fellows published.
Niharika Ghosh focuses on the sinking Mousini island in West Bengal's Sundarbans. Due to the recent cyclone Yaas, saline water infiltrated communities' agricultural lands and homes in Mousini leaving behind destroyed shelters and land unfit for cultivation as the country grapples with the pandemic. Research suggests that these natural disasters might get more frequent and more intense in the coming decades.
Some startups in India are trying to address the gap in rural healthcare by providing telehealth services and developing diagnostic software that can operate in areas with low internet connectivity. Puja Bhattacharjee’s reports from West Bengal, published in 101Reporters.
The tourism industry that supports a third of Goa's economy has seen a sharp decline since the pandemic hit India. While people around the world brace themselves to weather the wave of the Delta Covid-19 variant, boat operators in Goa are taking to odd jobs to keep earning a livelihood. Chryselle D'Silva Dias reports.

4. Fellow Flavia Lopes reports from Ase in Maharashtra about the ongoing water crisis. The villages face a massive water shortage. Women have to travel for miles, multiple times a day to fetch water for daily needs. Men don't contribute to this arduous task, which is largely performed by women. You can watch Flavia’s BTS here.
